I am returned (in furtherance of something larger).

Hello again.

I’ll be honest, I didn’t think I’d ever, ever pick up this blog again but here we are. I’ve even made a corresponding Twitter account (@JohnWoods58) and spruced my site up slightly, so I’m taking it very seriously indeed. At this rate, maybe I’ll move on to a paid plan in another 8 months!

So since my first post, I have had a few thoughts about what I want from this blog. It will still primarily be used for thinking out loud, but I like to think it will become the sort of thinking out loud that stimulates thought in others and encourages civilised debate (as opposed to my next post being titled: I wonder what I can have for dinner tonight)?

To give an example, I am currently working on the framework for a future blog post with the (working) title:

How the rise of the internet is fundamentally reinventing our sense of self and shaping future societies.

How professional does that sound?!

But in all seriousness, I hope these are the types of posts that will be appearing on this page in the future. The title (and subsequent blogpost) is influenced by my personal perception on how our relationship with the internet has changed radically over the last few years. Instead of viewing the internet through a cynical lens as I would have done previously, I’m now coming around to the idea of utilising the internet as an invaluable tool for collaboration, self-development and meaningful conversation.

I hope I can get the blog post out in the next few weeks, but let’s see what happens.

Until next time.

JW

Hello, sweet no-one.

Hi there. Anyone?

Firstly, I freely admit that I have no idea what I’m doing here. Amazingly (or perhaps worryingly), it took me longer to work out how to write a new post than it took me to get the blog (a whole website!) itself set up. As a 28-year-old male living in a well-developed part of the world, I think that’s pretty amazing. I also think it’s somewhat indicative of the internet ‘fast food’ culture we live in.

Anyway, I’m almost certain no-one will ever read this blog and its content, but I think it comforting that we can access a free platform where we can publish our unfettered thoughts with no fear of social judgement. At this point, t’s probably worth addressing the ‘elephant in the blog’ and getting it out there that I am most definitely a cynical person.

My vision for the audience of this blog can be compared to S3 E24 of The Office (US version). In this episode, an older employee of the titular office, Creed, (who harbours some disturbing views/thoughts on the world) is provided with a blank MS Word document by Ryan, and told that it’s a blog, so go crazy. The rationale behind this action is because Ryan wants to ‘protect the world from exposure to Creed’s brain’. If you haven’t seen The Office, do yourself a favour and get watching. You’ll thank me later, I promise.

I’ll finish up by just saying I really have zero idea of what this blog will consist of. This could well be my first and only post. Perhaps this will be discovered in some deep dark corner of the web in hundreds of years time, and future people will peek into this little window of thoughts and words and try to work out what kind of person I was; what my motivations were and what my character was like. But probably not.

On that note, I’ll leave you to it. I would say thanks for reading, but I can’t shake a consistent thought that has been with me the whole time I have been typing this – if you write a blog and no-one reads it, did you even write a blog?

Until next time (maybe).
